Are you an Owner?

  • Obtaining routine farrier care. Many owners have reported over the years the difficulty in getting a farrier in Beara. We gather lists of owners and present the list to farriers in order to make it viable for a farrier to travel to Beara to trim equines.
  • Handling equines for farrier care. Many owners may have difficulty handling their donkeys and ponies, due to age or physical limitations. We have been helping farmers on Beara with handling since 2019.
  • Nursing lameness in equines. (Please note: This is not a substitute for veterinary care.) We have helped equines with poulticing and bandaging in order to treat hoof abscesses.
  • Rehoming equines. In cases where owners wish to surrender their equines to a good home, we can help co-ordinate with the large animal charities to secure new homes.
  • Transportation: we can transport equines to animal charities.
  • Tips in handling skills. We can help new owners learn a few tricks to bond with their donkeys and get around a few stubborn characters as quickly as possible.

Are you concerned about abandoned or Straying Equines?

  • We have assisted the Gardai to safely get straying equines off of the main roads and into a secure location.
  • We can help Gardai by providing temporary foster care for animals while they locate the owners.

Anything else we can help with?

Please ask and we will see what we can do.

Note: our current range of operation is the entire Beara Peninsula. This range may increase. If you are slightly outside this range, example Kenmare or Bantry, please do enquire from us.

Are you concerned about an animal’s welfare?

We are a community group of volunteers willing to help in whatever way possible but our powers are limited. It is not our place to enter a persons private property without their permission. You would need to report any incidences of animal welfare or cruelty to the following authorised bodies.
