First Aid Kit for Owners / Farmers

We are including here a list of items that farmers and owners would find useful to keep in their first aid box.

• Poultice: Animalintex suitable for equines and dogs. Available to purchase from the vet. It comes in a pack and you can use a clean scissors to cut a piece to the correct size that you require. Tip: be generous with the size that you  choose as its effect will be more potent.
• Vet Wrap: this is an elastic type of bandage covering that is most useful to secure bandage and poultice in place. Available to purchase from the vet.
• Cotton Wool
• Babies Nappies: yes you read that correct! These can be purchased very cheaply from Lidl or Aldi. It is the most economical way to provide padding to hold poultice or bandage in place. For a donkey hoof, ‘newborn size’ is perfect. Also for Thoroughbred hoof. For bigger sized hooves you probably need to go up to a bigger sized nappy. If the animal is very lame and particularly for horses, we tend to put on 2 nappies to give extra cushioning and comfort.
• Silage tape / Jaffa tape / Silver electric tape: used for putting a waterproof covering over a bandaged hoof.
